So last week I was without internet for 2 entire days. I know, I know, cue dramatic music. It was a very real problem for me, and my 17-year-old, it was like we were being denied oxygen. I spent the first day checking and re-checking the status of the outage using my data, every half an hour, in the hope I would be magically be re-connected and breathing restored. Being the tech wizard I am (not), I turned if off at the source and reset the modem, had a few flashing lights but no signal. The morning of Day 2 and I was on social media less, unable to finish my assignments, grumpy and completely frustrated at my apparent lack of connection. through the afternoon, I realized I was getting shit done and that evening I decided to meditate. And then it hit me, the connection I was missing, wasn’t the lifeline of the internet, it was my connection to my own source energy. Source energy has many names; God, the Universe, Buddha, your Higher Self, Higher Power, Spirit etc. The name is unimportant, the intention and the connection is the vital part. It is believing in a power greater than yourself. It is re-aligning with your own personal power that comes from source. I interchangeably use all of the above, but for me, I like the word God. Now if you are even slightly offended by my use of the word God, feel free to exit here, OR allow your curiosity and open mind to keep reading, or you could use the word that resonates with you. Now it wasn’t that I had lost my connection to God it, far from it, it was simply that I had allowed other connections to take priority and I really was feeling tired and ‘disconnected’. I wasn’t meditating regularly, I was so ‘busy’ and my energy levels were down and I realized this was the connection I needed to strengthen. I also knew when I woke up the next day, the internet would be restored – and it was. People often ask me what the difference is between prayer and meditation, and for me it is very easy to explain. Prayer is my conversation to God, and for me, meditation is my conversation from God. It’s the opportunity to tune in, feel and listen for the answers. We are all so busy ‘doing’, and when we allow ourselves the time and space for ‘being’, things happen with much greater ease and flow, we become more productive, have greater clarity and focus and are generally happier. The other thing is, when we spend less time on ourselves, our energy is low and we easily become drained and resentful. Isn’t it interesting that we often place more importance on our phones and computers, and our digital connections, than we do on the ultimate connection? You will find instant answers with greater clarity, connecting to your own source energy, faster than you can say Google. Lets look at our lives and our energy metaphorically. Just like our computers need upgrading, so too does our energy. An energy upgrade is essential to boosting drive, manifestation and increasing health and vitality. We guard our computers against viruses, bugs, spam and hackers with anti-viral software. When we have too many tabs open, our computers don’t run as effectively, so too it is the same with our energy. When we have too many tabs open, are multi-tasking like a mofo, or when we are not protecting our energy, we become more susceptible to procrastination, unfocussed thoughts, viruses, bugs and energy vampires or hackers. Energy vampires are those people and environments that literally suck the goodness and positivity out of you. Think about the relationships you have in your life currently and without judgment notice the ones that feel good – they are the ones that are uplifting, encouraging, inspiring, supportive, loving. Now think about the ones that don’t feel good – they are often toxic, draining, competitive and filled with drama. These are the energy vampires in your life. These are the people that exhaust you after a brief meeting or conversation. You know the ones, sometimes even the mere thought of them gives you a headache or makes you want to take a nap. Yeah you want to avoid those! When you upload too much on your computer, you run the risk of running out of space and it becomes harder to find what you are looking for, and again it slows the functionality and productivity. It’s the same with your energy, when you have too much on your plate and are over-committed to the eyeballs, it slows you down and even the smallest tasks can become a complete head f*ck. When we don’t do regular backups, important files and documents can become lost or worse; wiped completely. Organization is what will help you here. De-cluttering and creating systems allows you the ability to find what you need and ups your productivity by not spending time looking for things. This is a way of backing up our energy, exercise is another great way to do this. I can tell you from personal experience, eating more mindfully and healthily, exercising daily and decluttering can all be done gradually, remember Rome wasn’t built in a day. You will have increased energy and sense of self. Again, just like our computers, when we are not fully charged and are running on reserve battery power, that cannot be sustained and we become exhausted and literally run out of energy. When we download more than our quota, it slows everything down, and it can be both frustrating and hard to get a clear signal. When we exceed our data, it costs us more. This is when we need to have boundaries and say no to others instead of comprising ourselves. When you ignore the flashing light or alarm that tells you to plug back into a power source to recharge, you can become vulnerable to illness and be completely spent. The thing I am learning more and more is to ensure I have plenty in reserve so that I am fully charged and things in my life run more efficiently and effectively. One of the best ways I believe to do this, is to connect or plug back into the ultimate source energy – God. I have found this thru quiet prayer, reflection and contemplation, Kundalini yoga, meditation, visualization, breathing techniques, resting, writing, gratitude, playing with my dog, going to the beach, gardening, listening to music, listen to someone that inspires me, doing something creative and self-nurture. Self-nurture is critical for restoring energy, balance and harmony in our lives. It says “I am important” “I am deserving and worthy of this time” “I am enough” and beautiful soul, you are, we all are. I believe our relationship with our own source energy or God is imperative in re-shaping and revitalizing our lives. When connecting to this energy, we don’t need to remember a password to have access to infinite wisdom, guidance and clarity. It is available to each one of us in every single moment. I have decided to take time each day, even for an hour, of disconnecting digitally and reconnecting spiritually. If you currently have no connection or have lost connection with your source energy, you can begin establishing or strengthening your connection by inviting peace and love into your heart. You could start by spending just 5 minutes every morning and night listing the things you’re grateful for, or listening to a guided meditation, sitting quietly in prayer, whatever works for you. Like any relationship it takes commitment, give it a go, you may just be surprised how quickly things begin transforming for you in new and positive ways, as if by magic. Stay connected Peeps, Love Lizzy x
